Water Submerges a Desolate Floodplain

"Water Submerges a Desolate Floodplain" was the last song I wrote for the "Four Elements" EP.

Like all of the other tracks on the EP, "Water" began with a simple chord progression on my acoustic. After getting the initial structure of the entire song, I recorded the acoustic guitar, then went from there.

By the time I was finished with "Water," it had only the bare remnants of the original song. I ended up re-recording the acoustic guitar and it's the only "real" element left of the performance. I added drums, two bass lines, two acoustic guitars and piano.

I was trying to approach this recording with "pop" music in mind and the progression and feel of the song is intentionally minimal and (hopefully) accessible.

I wrote some lyrics, tried to sing them a few times, then listened to the song again. It felt like enough letting the instrumentation speak for itself and I was overall very pleased with the results.
