Fire Consumes the Sacred Hills

from Four Elements by Solar Ritual

/

about

"Fire" was the most improvisational of the songs for this EP. I wrote a few chords, recorded them, and layered, mixed, added, removed and generally played with the mix.

The song ended up being 12 minutes with five distinct sections. Correctly, I decided to edit some, and got it down to six minutes with just three separate parts.

I wanted to write something inspired by Tortoise, I have always loved how bass heavy and rhythmic their compositions are. While I originally wrote and recorded this on guitar, I ended up stripping away all elements of a "traditional" sounding song, replacing them with chord progression played on various synthesizers and bass.

I am very pleased with the results of "Fire Consumes the Sacred Hills." It sounds like nothing else in the Solar Ritual catalog. I am pleased that my creative ambitions allow me to make new things that have no resemblance to past compositions.
